Introducing OOMU..

For our adventure, we have our trusty boat 'OOMU'.

The children dreamt up the nonsense name, we googled it and discovered that an "Ohmu" (王蟲) is a fictional animal from the film/manga Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. The Ohmus are a giant sand worm equipped with a tough carapace over their whole body, mandibles and hundreds of legs. Noble and clever beasts also known as the King of the Insects.

Here is our Oomu under fabrication at Alubat, Les Sables D'Olonne in NW France. She is an ONVI 435, hull number 107.

Strong welded Aluminium hull, shallow draft, simple bulletproof systems, low maintenance exterior, comfortable ride with space for all of us.

With her deep but retractable keel/rudder and flat bottom, she is at home out in the open ocean, poking around tidal areas or even dried out-on the beach.

But then we also discovered 'OOMOO'

...is a half decent ozzie shiraz!

We took delivery in April, we had a extremely busy time commissioning all of the systems, working out the stowage, creating a family home and introducing the boys to sailing!

So far, we are very happy with her, she feels well built, comfortable to live onboard and sails beautifully.
