This is the view from the Torre Tavira, an old merchants tower in Cadiz, used for spotting incoming shipping. Under this platform is the amazing Camera Obscura, a sort of periscope that projects an image onto a huge bowl in a darkened room.
Great architecture in the old city of Cadiz. There is a mix of enticing Moorish courtyards and fantastically decorated buildings.
They even had free public wi-fi spots enabling us to keep with emails (alas we are not too organised on the blog - sorry for the huge 3 month delay)
From Cadiz we had another brisk sail through the Straits of Gibraltar (Is it always 30knots there?)
Finally made it to Gibraltar where we engaged in the normal round of touristy stuff - trip to the top of the rock (I do love a good monkey on top of my head)
A naughty monkey with a Barbary Macaque.
The view from the top of the rock was fantastic - you could see all the way to Africa! OOMU is down there in the marina somewhere, which was very rolly when a big ship went past. In fact it is the only marina where we have contemplated putting up the leecloths to stop us falling out of bed when asleep.
The road to Spain goes over the runway. It was great fun to walk to another country and cross over the runway.
View from the Great Siege Tunnels, the attacking Spaniards didn't stand a chance once the besieged British opened up these gun ports and fired down from above.
Very sad I know, but At Morrison's (a British supermarket), we managed to stock up on enough bran flakes, shreddies and rice crispies for several months. Heaven knows what the checkout lady thought about the state of our bowels!.
We get to see wildlife in the strangest of places. There was a huge octopus living in the fetid water of the marina in Gibraltar. We did briefly consider trying to catch and pickle him, but were far too scared...
Rainy day... 10 pin bowling in Gibraltar. You know you have been too long in one place when you end up going ten pin bowling. Silas loves it and beat all of us .
